How to prevent your mail from being flagged as spam

If you are sending out email marketing or emails to a number of addresses, it is important to understand why an email might get flagged as spam. This will allow you to avoid including some 'triggers' with your emails, and make sure your emails get delivered without delay. The following are some points you should bear in mind.

  1. Try to use a precise subject line which pertains to the content of your email

  2. Endeavor to use clear, natural and concise language throughout your emails

  3. Ensure your domain has an SPF record

  4. Avoid using ALL CAPS in your subject line or using special characters to alternatively spell words (eg 'Th1s is n0t 5pam')

  5. Do not use JavaScript in your emails. Do not use HTML generated by Microsoft Word either

  6. Avoid  keyword stuffing or using the same phrase excessively

  7. Do not state in your disclaimer that this email is not spam. This will likely match common patterns used to identify spam by spam filters

  8. Never add unnecessary/false email headers

  9. Be sure to include an unsubscribe link
