WordPress Pages vs. Posts - What's the difference and which should I use?

When adding new content to your WordPress website, you will notice that you have the option to a create a new Page and/or a new Post. While they may look the same on your website at first glance, there are times when you should use one and not the other.

Posts should be used for regularly updated content, such as blog entries or news articles, and generally appear in chronological order. For example, if you are running a blog and add a new article each week, you should use posts here.

Pages are used for static content on your website, meaning that the information they contain rarely changes and considered timeless. Pages are often tied to the main navigation menu on your website. For example, if you wanted to create 'About Us' or 'Contact Us' webpages, you should use pages here.

• To create a new page or post, first log in to your WordPress admin area. This is generally accessed by going to http://www.mydomain.com/wp-admin (replacing mydomain.com with your actual domain name)
• Once logged in, click on Posts on the left hand menu and then click Add New
• Once your post is ready, you can add it to your site by clicking the Publish button on the right
• To edit/delete a page navigate back to Posts > All Posts on your dashboard
• To add a new page to your site, click Pages on the left hand menu and then click Add New
• Once your page is ready, you can add it to your site by clicking the Publish button on the right
• To edit/delete a page navigate back to 'Pages' > 'All Pages' on your dashboard
